I believe Louise Hay’s theory that what we are choosing to think and say in this moment will create the next moment and the next day and the next year. The point of power is always in the present moment. We are never stuck. This moment is a new beginning right here right now! Isn’t that great to know! It all begins with awareness ... What are you thinking? What words are you choosing to speak? Are they in alignment with your highest version or are you thinking self sabotaging thoughts and torching your village or shutting down? Let me introduce you to a simple destressifying technique taught by davidji called-
16 seconds to clarity (a.k.a. 16seconds). Not only does it have a profound destressifying impact in the moment, but it can also be the foundation for a long-lasting daily practice.
Try it now - take a long, slow deep breath in through your nostrils, and as you do slowly count to four. Observe the air as it moves into your nostrils and to the back of your throat. Watch it as it moves down your chest, and deep into your belly. Feel your belly expand. Once your belly is filled, hold that breath in to the count of four. And just witness the breath in your belly as you silently count. 1, 2, 3, 4. Now, slowly—to the count of four—exhale through your nostrils, and again watch your breath as it moves up into your chest, into your throat, into your sinuses, and out through your nostrils. And, when the last wisp of air is out of you, hold that breath out to the count of four. And, observe it, watch it, witness it as it dissipates into the air. Close your eyes and take a long slow deep breath in through your nostrils to the count of four - in four – hold four – out four – hold four – and make sure you follow your breath...observing it along the way is key to the process.
In under one minute, you have taken a powerful step into destressifying. The formal terminology for the 16seconds exercise is called introducing a pattern interrupt.
You actually just jammed the brakes on a potential surge of stress hormones and all the negative mindbody reactions you were starting to feel. You broke the flow of conditioned physical and emotional responses. And, in just 16 second you returned to the present moment - the power moment. You will notice that your mind is calmer and your heart rate has slowed down You filled your body with rich heavily oxygenated blood and nourishing hormones
and in the process, you’ve released a little bit of stress!
All in 16 seconds! Who doesn’t have 16 seconds? We are the co-creators of our magnificent life. The masters of each moment. What are you thinking right now?
